Tanglewood Nursery School

The School Day

Little Tanglewood

Once offered a place in Little Tanglewood, your child can attend between 2-5 sessions per week.

Morning sessions: 9am – 12pm  or

Afternoon sessions: 12.45pm – 3.45pm

Both sessions are term time only.

When children start in Little Tanglewood, it is often their first experience of school. As such the focus is on settling children and ensuring that they are happy. The staff team work very closely with the parents/carers to ensure there is a smooth transition between home and school.

It is in Little Tanglewood that children begin to learn about routines, e.g what do you do when you come in the door? (Hanging bags up, finding your picture etc), what happens at snack time ?(Washing hands, sitting with friends etc). Any routine takes time to learn and lots and lots of practise.

You will see below that Tanglewood have a more structured day.

In the time your children spend at Little Tanglewood they will have learnt the routines that will help them be successful in the move to Tanglewood.

Once offered a place in Tanglewood, your child will attend either 5 morning or 5 afternoon sessions per week.

Morning sessions: 9am – 12pm  or

Afternoon sessions: 12.45pm – 3.45pm

Both sessions are term time only.

Please see below for an example of a typical day...

Our School Day - Tanglewood 2018-2019
Below is a typical session across a morning. This would be repeated in the afternoon session.
9.00 - 9.15 Arrival/Registration/Child Initiated Play
9.15- 9.30 Mat Time (Introduced after October Half Term/or as children are ready) Whole Class Adult Led Activity (Children may work as a whole class or in small groups and the focus will change to support the children's needs)
9.30 - 11.30 Indoor/Outdoor Free Flow Children can choose where to go. They can stay class based or follow their learning in the other classrooms or in the Garden.
11.30 - 11.45 Tidy Up Inside & Outside
11.45 - 12.00 Mat Time (Introduced after October Half Term/or as children are ready) Story/Song
12.00 Home Time Children remain on the mat until their parent/carer arrives and their name is called. The parent/carer then collects the child.

* During Indoor/Outdoor Free Flow - We use 'In the Moment Planning. Adults move to where the children are engaged and interact with them as they play. Adults then plan 'in the moment ' as the children explore and learn. Adults observe carefully and enhance the learning whenever they spot a 'teachable' moment. Observations, interactions and outcomes are recorded afterwards using our school observation, planning and assessment systems.

* We have rolling snack throughout the session, which means that between 9.30-11.30 children can choose when to have their snack and will follow the routines within the classroom.
